Dear Ms. Weiting,
I ask that you permanently halt the US Navy from further testing of ocean sonar systems.
Practices targeting humpback whales in Hawaii resulted in them leaving the area and exhibiting stressful behavior. A swimmer in the water at the time was admitted to hospital with head trauma. More recent tests in the Bahamas have been implicated in the mass stranding of seventeen different species of whales and dolphins on exactly the same day as the test. Nine animals died. Usually just one or two strandings are recorded per year in the whole Bahamas chain.
I demand that the US Navy stop wasting my tax dollars on obsolete tests that have been shown to harm marine mammals.
