The Orca is undoubtedly the top predator of the sea. Its strength and ability to hunt cooperatively enable it to eat everything from the smallest fish to the largest animal in the world, the blue whale. The Orca's success is due to two unique factors; its extraordinary adaptation to the sea, and its remarkable social system.

Orcas possess sophisticated underwater sonar that enables them to perceive their surroundings ten times more effectively than our most advanced equipment.

Orca society is built around groups of mother orcas and their offspring, since calves stay with their mothers for their entire lives. This may account for the fact that social ties between orcas are stronger and longer lasting than those exhibited by any other mammal.

Orcas spend a great deal of time in physical interactions and are particularly well known for their spectacular aerial displays.
